About Design Associates Kaua`i

Though we are small design office, we do a lot. We can help you realize your project right from before the start with pre-purchase consultation, and master-planning of your site. We can take your ideas and dreams from conceptual to stamped construction documents, ready for submittal to the County. We are Designers - not Architects or Engineers, but frequently call upon the services of the local Architectural and Engineering Community and Design Professionals to address specific project needs; Surveyors, Civil-, Septic-, Structural-, Soils- and Architectural- Engineers, as they arise. After County approval of your project, we can also provide post-design services such as construction observation to ensure the product looks like the plans. This can be particularly helpful for clients who live off-island.

Rodney J. Pascua

Aloha, my name is Rodney Pascua.   I was born and raised on Kaua'i and have been lucky enough to have a job I love - Residential Design. Although I grew up on the dry west side, over the years I have lived in many parts of this lovely island and have come to know firsthand the ever changing moods and many micro-climates of Kaua'i.

As a young man, I was privileged to have the opportunity to first apprentice, and later partner with L. Charles Stevens, a renown artistic architect strongly influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright. Although I have no formal architectural education, the 18 years I spent being mentored and then working side by side with Charles designing houses is the solid real-world foundation of my design career that now spans three decades. Today, I now have hundreds of satisfied clients of my own and now am blessed to be working with a growing team of diverse and talented people.

In my younger days, I loved to compete in triathlons. Today if I am not in the office or out at a job site, I am often with my fiancé Jan walking the beaches, hiking the many mountains, or exploring jungle trails to photograph wildflowers of Kaua'i. I also enjoy 'going for a walk' solo, out on the links.

Aloha. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest where I went to school, worked, and lived for 24 years. After moving to Kaua`i with my girlfriend in 2003 to care-take some property, I can finally say I have learned to love the rain again. In Kaua`i, even the winter rains are warm, and frequently broken with sunshine and rainbows. These waters keep my new island home green, and the many waterfalls pumping.

I studied Architecture and Sculpture at the University of Washington in Seattle, and did my Architectural Internship with U.S. Coast Guard at their Facilities Design and Construction Center (PAC) also in Seattle. For the next dozen years, I explored hands-on design/build opportunities quite broadly, doing graphic, fashion, landscape, interior, environmental, industrial, and commercial design.

Since coming to Kaua`i, I have been fortunate to work with Design Associates during a time of growth and transition, and have discovered a wonderful opportunity to bring my diverse design experience to the cr eation of unique tropical homes. When not in the office or out at a site, I am often cycling the backroads of Kaua`i, or paddling around learning how to surf my longboards.
